Bibles from Church Periodical Club Blessed by Bishop Smith

PARRISH РSix cases of Bibles were blessed by the Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith for elementary and middle school campers at DaySpring Episcopal Conference Center. The elementary session of the camp began Sunday, June 17.

The NIV version bibles are courtesy the Church Periodical Club. The Church Periodical Club is an Episcopal institution; its ministry is to supply books, magazines, tapes, videos and computer programs free those who cannot otherwise obtain them and to raise the money to do this.

In addition to the bibles, Bishop Smith blessed crosses; each student will be making his or her own necklace to hold them. In blessing the crosses, Bishop Smith reminded campers that the cross could remind them that the worst thing in the world can turned into something good.

Church Periodical Club was founded in 1888 by Mary Ann Drake Fargo, wife of a member of the Wells-Fargo Express firm. Mary Ann and her friends in the Church of the Holy Communion, New York, sent their bundles of books and periodicals westward to missionaries and pioneers via stagecoach.
