Three weeks of “regular” camp sessions down and now its time for one of our favorite weeks – Mission Camp! We use DaySpring as a base site, and head out to various areas during the day to be the hands and feet of Jesus here on Earth.
This evening started with our typical staff introductions, silly rules video, and off to dinner. All of this was followed by games and icebreakers for the whole group and for our Ohana (family) groups. Fr. Bryan O’Carroll and Fr. Chris Wood are our chaplains this week and they did a crash course on what mission is – what it means, and why we do it. We are doing this to give glory to God. Our job is to point to Jesus. We talked about things that could possibly get in the way of this (our fears, our attitudes, our moods, etc.) and how we can avoid that in our daily work. Each camper came up with with a phrase, word, or short prayer to say when we find ourselves in a situation where we’re losing our focus.
After our “crash course” we had a commissioning by our chaplains for us to be ready to go out into the world tomorrow! Our three sites are two different RCMA sites. RCMA is Redlands Christian Migrant Association. And the third group is going to Portamento of Hope in Valrico.
For now, everyone is in their cabins resting up for a full day tomorrow!
We will be posting pictures from the week here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmn9gPa9
