2018 Elementary Camp – Days 2 and 3

Written by:

We have been off to a fantastic start of our camp! Our Elementary campers have been so much fun so far!

On Monday morning we split our time between canoes and tree climbing. In the afternoon we had Chaplain’s Program and crafts before we went out to the pool. After the pool it was time for dinner, then we had Chaplain’s Program with the whole group. We watched parts of “Elf” where Buddy is rejected by people around him and how that made him feel and how we can handle it when we feel rejected by others. Campers also did an activity where they had to stack Oreos and be the last team to have their tower fall.

Our Chaplain’s Program on Monday night was our Hootenanny with Barney! It’s hard to believe that it’s the last Hootenanny of the summer!!!

Tuesday morning we divided our time between outdoor games and low ropes. The campers did such a great job working out the challenges of the low ropes course, and they had fun doing it!! There was also enough time after we were done with our morning activities for a quick dip in the pool to cool off.

After lunch and siesta we had Chaplain’s Program and crafts (decorating Christmas cookies!!) Then we had free time/swim time before heading to the cabins to get ready for dinner.

After dinner we had Chaplain’s Program with the whole group. Our amazing chaplains discussed the power of love and reaching out to others. The campers and counselors went around the room writing kind notes to each other on paper hearts that were taped to their backs. It was really sweet to see everyone participating and eager to share things they liked about each other!

Tonight our Counselor’s Program was Junior Counselor Dress Up. Each cabin side has a “JC” assigned to it. Junior Counselors are high school aged students or recent grads who volunteer their time here over the summer and they definitely showed their dedication tonight! Everyone went back to their cabins and the campers had to dress their JC up better than the rest. Then, everyone gathered in the Program Center for a fashion show and voting for the best dressed JC. There are some amazing pictures from that, the creativity of the campers is really amazing! And, to make it even better, we celebrated the hard work from everyone tonight by enjoying s’mores and songs around the campfire.

A little thunderstorm passed through tonight after campers went back to their cabins, but everyone is now resting up for tomorrow!
